Word Verification !!!

Well in answer to Heather's plea about Word Verification which I do happen to agree with, I went and checked my settings thinkng all was well only to find I had in fact got Word Verification turned ON!! EEEEK!! Hopefully it's off now!

Anyway here's what Heather had to say about it all:

This is an appeal on behalf of busy bloggers. Please spare a thought for the poor bloggers who work so hard at getting round as many blogs as possible to leave sprinkles of pixie dust and good vibes wherever they go. The terrible proliferation of this awful plague of word verification is a blight on their efforts to make Blogland a cheerier place. So please (see.. it's a pretty please! lol)... Cancel word verification on your blogs! Have blog owner approval by all means, but word verification is a pain in the proverbial (insert appropriate noun here)!!!

Definitely food for thought Heather!!!

Absolutely agree!! Thanks for posting this to your blog. I turned mine off months ago. There is no reason at all for it if you require comments held for approval. May I have permission to copy this and post it to my blog?? Your's and Heather's words are perfect!!

Hi, Barbara.. Speaking for myself, I am happy for you to copy my word verification post. In fact, I would be delighted! :D

It's worth checking out the comments as well, but you'll find my original post HERE

Fabulous idea! Especially when you are trying to post without your reading glasses on and keep guessing the wrong letter!!!

It's an interesting thought, but I have seen the harm that can be done by script kiddies with a programme that lets them spam a site. I watched with horror as a forum on a small games site I play at was spammed at a rate of over 1,000 posts per hour. I also watched one of the techs fight to stop it with a script of his own which would delete the posts faster than the bad script could post them. He was reporting his progress back to me and I will never forget when he told me his script was now deleting at over 700 posts per hour but it was not enough! He did win the "race" eventually! Fighting back with a scrip of his own was all he could do as he did not have a full set of controls on the site. The site owner understandably introduced a captcha the next day on the site's forum. So now when I struggle to read those word verification windows I simply keep in mind how much harm can be done if they are not in place.
